HOW DO I INSTALL DESIGN IT! 3-D?
To install:
1. Double-click on the Install icon in the main window.
2. Follow the instructions in the dialog box to perform a Full or Minimal
installation of Design It! 3-D.
Although it is possible to run Design It! 3-D directly off the
CD-ROM, we strongly recommend that you select the Full Installation and run
the application from your hard drive. Full Installation will optimize the
performance of Design It! 3-D and give you more flexibility in
running the application.
IF I SELECT THE FULL INSTALLATION, WHAT FOLDERS WILL BE INSTALLED ON MY HARD DRIVE?
With Full Installation, Design It! 3-D installer will create a folder on your hard disk called Design It! 3-D. This folder will contain: the Design It! 3-D application, this Read Me file, a 2-D Galleries folder, a 3-D Galleries folder, a Scenes folder, and a Models folder. These folders contain files which Design It! 3-D needs to operate, please don't move or rename these folders or their contents.
We have included over one hundred sample scenes and models with Design It! 3-D. These scenes and models are for you to explore and enjoy. To get
acquainted with the program, you may want to open one of these sample
scenes or models and select Play from the Walk menu. Selecting Play will
launch a pre-recorded walk path through the scene. You can stop the tour at
any point by pressing the mouse button.
WHAT VIDEO MODES WILL DESIGN It! 3-D RUN IN?
Design It! 3-D will run with the Monitors control panel at any
setting: Black & White or 4, 16, 256, Thousands or Millions of colors.
However, for the best combination of speed and image quality, we recommend
that you run Design It! 3-D in 256 colors.
WHAT ARE DESIGN It! 3-D'S MEMORY REQUIREMENTS?
For simple models, Design It 3-D requires as little as 3,000K of
memory. You can run Design It! 3-D on a Macintosh with 4 megabytes
of RAM, but as models become more complex Design It! 3-D will
require more memory. For complex models, such as some of those provided in
the Scenes folder, we recommend allocating at least 6,000K of memory to
Design It! 3-D. (This will be possible on Macintosh models with 8
megabytes of RAM or more.) If your Macintosh has 4 megabytes of RAM, we
recommend that you work with less complex scenes and objects. Also, we
recommend that you allocate as much memory to Design It! 3-D as your
system allows.
HOW CAN I ALLOCATE OR FREE MORE MEMORY FOR DESIGN IT! 3-D?
1) Don't run other programs simultaneously with Design It! 3-D.
2) Set the Disk Cache size in the Memory control panel to 32K.
3) Turn off the RAM Disk in the Memory control panel (System 7).
4) Hold down the Shift key at startup to turn off all extensions (System 7).
HOW CAN I ADJUST DESIGN IT! 3-D MEMORY REQUIREMENTS?
For optimal performance on your Macintosh, you may want to change Design It! 3-D's memory settings. To do so, follow these steps:
1) System 6 users:
>From MultiFinder, select the Design It! 3-D application icon. Choose
"Get Info" from the File menu. To alter the amount of memory that Design It! 3-D requires to run, change the Application Memory Size. You
can run Design It! 3-D on a Macintosh with 4 megabytes of RAM by
setting the Application Memory Size at 3,000K and starting your Macintosh
without any INITs or CDEVs enabled. Don't set this number lower than
3,000K. To allocate more memory, set the Application Memory Size to a
larger number. To be able to open all of the sample Scenes, set the
Application Memory Size to 6,000K. If you're creating very large models,
you may want to set this number to more than 6,000K.
2) System 7.0 users:
